Reading daily is critically important to literacy development. In addition, it is important that parents ask questions about the text to determine their child's understanding. This activity includes statements from a story for children to answer. You can develop similar questions for stories and books that you read at home.
In this unit we are reading informational texts about animals and their habitats. Does your child have a favorite animal? This would be a great time to read and research about that animal at home.
We are also working on comparing and contrasting. Compare and contrast different objects around the house or different games that your child likes to play. Click here for a compare and contrast game you can play on the computer or with paper and pencil.
For children who are learning English as a second language, www.colorincolorado.org/reading-tip-sheets-parents consider these reading tip sheets. They are available in languages other than English at the bottom of the page.
